When to drop collision coverage Consumer Reports

We usually recommend that you drop collision and/or comprehensive coverage when the annual premium equals or exceeds 10 percent of your car's cash value.

When should I drop collision insurance Canada?

If the cost of your collision coverage is 10% or more of the value of your car, it's probably time to drop it. For example, if your collision insurance costs you $400 per year and your vehicle is only worth $4,000, cancelling collision will save you money.

Do you want a high or low collision deductible?

In general, drivers who are more likely to file an auto insurance claim will have lower total costs with a low-deductible car insurance plan. Conversely, drivers who don't file a claim will typically save with a higher deductible plan.
