The researchers found that happiness followed a U-shaped curve between the age of 20 and 70. This led to the finding that 23 and 69 is the age when we are full of happiness. The reason is pretty simple.

In one large study from the Brookings Institute, for example, scientists found happiness was high for 18- to 21-year-olds and then dropped steadily until about age 40. But past middle age, the pattern began to reverse—gradually climbing back up to its highest point at age 98!

It found that happiness levels rose after 1945 and peaked in 1957 before declining during the 1960s and 1970s until a nadir in 1978's Winter of Discontent. There was then a recovery but never to the levels of the 1950s.
