Galileo Galilei pioneered the experimental scientific method and was the first to use a refracting telescope to make important astronomical discoveries. He is often referred to as the father of modern astronomy and the father of modern physics. Albert Einstein called Galileo the father of modern science.

Science may be as old as the human species, and some of the earliest archeological evidence for scientific reasoning is tens of thousands of years old. The earliest written records in the history of science come from Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia in around 3000 to 1200 BCE.

Who named science?

It might have been the 16th century philosopher Francis Bacon who coined the term "science", but even if it wasn't, the word must have come into common usage around his time, in the western world at least.
