Students use language functions in order to express ideas, communicate with others, and show understanding of content in an academic setting. Language forms deal with the internal grammatical structure of words and phrases as well as the word themselves.

What is a language form?

Language form, or the structure of language, involves three linguistic systems: pho- nology, morphology, and syntax. We introduced the concept of phonology when we discussed writing about the sounds of speech. Phonology is the study of the sounds we use to make words.

What is a language function?

Language Function​is the purpose for which language is used. The language function is often represented by the active verbs within the learning outcomes.

What are language forms example?

Forms of a language deal with the internal grammatical structure of words. The relationship between boy and boys, for example, and the relationship (irregular) between man and men would be forms of a language. The contrast between form and function in language can be illustrated through a simple medical analogy.

What is form and function in grammar?

A useful distinction in grammar is that of grammatical form and grammatical function. Grammatical form is concerned with the description of linguistic units in terms of what they are, and grammatical function is concerned with the description of what these linguistic units do.
