Stage 1 cancer treatment
The treatment options for stage 1 cancer depend on the type and location of the cancer. In some cases, stage 1 cancer treatment involves chemotherapy, radiation therapy, medications, surgery or a combination of approaches.
How long can you live with Stage 1 cancer?
Stage 1. Most women (around 98%) will survive their cancer for 5 years or more after diagnosis.
Is Stage 1 cancer really cancer?
stage 1 – the cancer is small and hasn't spread anywhere else. stage 2 – the cancer has grown, but hasn't spread. stage 3 – the cancer is larger and may have spread to the surrounding tissues and/or the lymph nodes (or "glands", part of the immune system)
Do you need chemo for Stage 1?
Chemotherapy is not usually offered for stage 1 breast tumours. It may be offered after surgery (called adjuvant therapy) for these tumours if there is a high risk that the cancer will come back (recur).
Does Stage 1 cancer require surgery?
Surgery is the main treatment for stage I breast cancer. The nearby lymph nodes will also need to be checked, either with a sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) or an axillary lymph node dissection (ALND). Some women can have breast reconstruction at the same time as the surgery to remove the cancer.
