Additional comment actions Having multiple can bring down your rate. When I was dealing with a totaled car and a “new” one, I had a brief overlap where both were on my insurance. The wrecked one was free to insure because it was so old that the multicar discount wiped out its rate.

Of course that's going to be expensive to insure. Switch to a cheap used car that you can replace with cash and you'll only need to carry liability, which is much cheaper than full coverage. As a bonus, you'll be able to squeeze into that tight spot without worrying about someone dinging your door.
