Carbon and oxygen will make a bond

Carbon and oxygen can be bonded with single, double or triple covalent bonds. Single bonds are when an oxygen atom and carbon atom share two electrons. Double bonds between oxygen and carbon atoms involve two shared electrons. Triple bonds are three shared electrons.

Is oxygen and carbon an ionic bond?

There is no ionic compound made of carbon and oxygen. This is because of the fact that both of them are non metals. Two non metals cannot ionize each other because neither has an electron affinity large enough to compensate for the energy required to take an electron from a non metal.

What happens when oxygen reacts with carbon?

Carbon reacts with oxygen to give carbon dioxide.
