Carbon hydrogen reaction

What is the reaction between carbon and hydrogen called?

Carbon-hydrogen reaction (1) (also known as hydrogasification) is a reaction of interest in several fields and its understanding is fundamental for many clean coal utilization technologies, such as the integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) [1] and the zero emission coal (ZEC) [2], [3].(1)C+2H2→CH4.

Is the reaction between hydrogen and carbon exothermic?

All reactions have an activation energy, the energy boost required to start the reaction. Once the reaction of hydrogen with carbon is started, it is (probably) exothermic enough to keep itself going; but you need to supply the activation energy to get things started.

Why does the rate of carbon-hydrogen reaction decrease at a high hydrogenation?

Therefore, it was concluded that the decrease in the rate of carbon-hydrogen reaction is due to the decrease in the concentration of the more reactive edge (the armchair edge) at a high hydrogenation degree.
