Carbon silicon carbide composite

What is carbon fiber reinforced silicon carbide?

Carbon fiber reinforced silicon carbide is a very strong composite made of a silicon carbide matrix with carbon fiber reinforcement. The material is very suitable for oil quenching processes in metal hardening due to its low porosity. Furthermore, by its low weight it fits perfectly to your automation idea for your hardening process.

Is silicon carbide a good protective coating material?

Many ceramic materials have been suggested for the protective coatings, and one of the most efficient coatings was silicon carbide. However, there is a large mismatch between carbon fiber and silicon carbide.

Why do micro-cracks form in silicon carbide composites?

The micro-cracks formed due to the thermal stress result in the step failure in the composites when the strain of the silicon carbide matrix reaches the critical strain ( Fig. 8 a). The thickness of 80 nm is appropriate for the present composites from the fracture behavior and the mechanical properties.
