How do police catch hit and run drivers UK?


After a hit and run accident, police will attempt to trace the driver of the vehicle using surveillance cameras, evidence at the scene and witness accounts. This process often enables the police to identify, locate and arrest the suspect for leaving the scene of the accident.
Penalties for failing to stop at the scene of accident or reporting an incident within 24 hours are determined by the Magistrates' Court and can include: A prison sentence of up to six months and/or an unlimited fine. Driving endorsements and a potential ban. 5 – 10 driving licence points.
