How many times a week should you do physical therapy?


How long does physical therapy treatment take? A typical order for physical therapy will ask for 2-3 visits per week for 4-6 weeks. Sometimes the order will specify something different. What generally happens is for the first 2-3 weeks, we recommend 3x per week.

How many times a week should you do physical therapy?

  • Usually Physical Therapy is scheduled 3 times per week, so you can “rest” in between sessions. However, if your Therapist gives you a home program, you should definately do it on the days that you don't have a PT session scheduled. The home program is generally much less strenuous than a Therapist run session, and generally includes stretching.

How often do I need to see a physical therapist?

  • When your pain level is lower, and your condition not as fresh you can cut down to 1 to 2 times a week. Chances are you will do well at 1 x per week if you are consistent in doing the exercise program the therapist has given you for homework. Talk to your PT, she or he will work it out with you.

How long should you attend physical therapy?

  • Of course, this will vary from patient to patient, depending upon your individual situation. However, in general, you can expect around 3 to 4 weeks of formal physical therapy from our experts.

How long will I be in physical therapy?

  • Your course of therapy will depend entirely on your ailment or injury, as well as how quickly your body responds to PT. One or two sessions with instructions for home exercise may be sufficient, or you may require several months of physical therapy.
