The initial aim of the École des mines de Paris, namely to train high-level mining engineers, evolved with time to adapt to the technological and structural transformations undergone by society. Mines Paris - PSL has now become one of the most prestigious French engineering schools with a broad variety of subjects.
Numerous research partnerships with French or foreign organizations: CNRS, Institut Mines-Télécom, ParisTech, Inria, MIT, CalTech ... 235 years of history, always at the forefront of technological advances, modernity and heritage are an integral part of the identity and durability of Mines Paris - PSL.
Notable alumni include Maurice Allais, a Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences 1988, Louis Paul Cailletet (1832–1913), a physicist and inventor, and Jean-Martin Folz, former CEO of PSA Peugeot Citroën. Until 2017 Mines ParisTech was ranked as a separate institution in the THE World University Rankings.
