The International Vocabulary of Metrology (VIM) is a guidance document that aims at disseminating scientific and technological knowledge about metrology by harmonizing worldwide the related fundamental terminology.
It is defined in the International Vocabulary of Legal Metrology as that part of metrology relating to activities which result from statutory requirements and concern measurement, units of measurement, measuring instruments and methods of measurement and which are performed by competent bodies.
ISO/IEC Guide 99:2007 provides a set of definitions and associated terms, in English and French, for a system of basic and general concepts used in metrology, together with concept diagrams to demonstrate their relations.
Additional information is given in the form of examples and notes under many definitions.
