The Introduction to Architecture program builds on the successes of GSAPP’s online design studios and leadership in visual studies, representation, and technology to create new opportunities for students participating from their home locations.

To familiarize students with images of architecture and design drawn from various times and cultures. Specific topics include the basic elements, attributes and organizational principles of architectural form and their relationship to design intention.
The Fundamentals of Architecture, 2nd Edition is an introduction to the basic ideas that inform architecture. It is intended to unravel the complexity of architecture to explain its process and make it more accessible. It guides students through the rich history of the discipline, and introduces aspects of contemporary theory and practice.
