The instrumentation and control system is the brain and nervous system of the plant.
At the center of the instrumentation and control system are programmable controllers.
These comprise hundreds of cabinets full of electronic equipment that monitors the reactor.
I&C – a Nuclear Power Plant's Central Nervous System
Through its constituent elements, such as equipment, modules, sensors, transmitters, motors, valves and others, the I&C system senses plant parameters, monitors performance, integrates information, and makes automatic adjustments to the NPP's operations as necessary.
Local Instruments or Field Instruments: These include pressure and temperature gauges, level switch, pressure switch, draft gauges, vibration switches etc.
Analytical Instruments: They include measurements required to ascertain chemical condition of process medium at various points.
