[PDF] figure size for journal publication

How do you write a journal article?

Use dark black ink on high-quality, smooth, opaque white paper. Use lettering that will be no smaller than 5 points at final reduction. Helvetica or Arial work well for lettering. Use lines no thinner than 1 point. When possible, submit artwork that does not have to be reduced to fit a single column in the journal (3.25 in. across).

What are the guidelines for supplying figures for an accepted article?

To effectively showcase your research on publication, we recommend following the guidelines below when supplying figures for your accepted article. Line art includes graphs, flowcharts, diagrams, scatter plots, and other text-based figures that are not tables. If a figure includes both line art and images, follow the line art guidelines.

How many pages does a composite figure take?

A composite figure (with several panels) usually needs to take about half a page, equivalent to about 600 words, in order for all the elements to be visible (see section 5.9 for instructions on sizing figures).

How do you cite a figure in a manuscript?

Distinct figure panels should be labeled with uppercase letters (A, B, etc.) and should each be described in order within the caption. Figures should be called out within the text and numbered in the order of their citation in the text. For initial submission, figures should be embedded directly in the .docx or PDF manuscript file.
