  • What is the Blackwood Convention in bridge?

Blackwood is a slam-seeking convention for asking aces. It is used to avoid bidding slam contracts when two aces are missing for a small slam or an ace is missing for grand slam. Typically it is invoked with a bid of 4NT when a suit fit has already been identified.
  • What is 1430 convention in bridge?

RKCB 1430 is a variation of the Blackwood Convention. The advantage it offers is that much more information can be communicated with 1430 than with regular Blackwood. Specifically, locating the king and the queen of trump as well as aces with the 4NT ask bid.
  • How do you answer Blackwood in bridge?

    Standard Blackwood
With no aces or four, partner replies 5?; with one, two, or three aces, 5?, 5?, or 5?, respectively. The difference between no aces and four is clear to the Blackwood bidder (unless the partnership lacks all four) so one member of the partnership knows the combined number of aces.
  • As soon as either one of you (you or your partner) bids the suit of the final contract and you think you have enough points for a slam, the key bid is 4 No Trump. (Some partnerships agree to reserve 4NT as a code that always means Blackwood. This is a good idea.
