LEARN JUST 400 WORDS and YOU CAN SPEAK 1000 SENTENCES. If you don't want to learn the Tamil alphabet, just follow the transliterated words .Tamil alphabet lessons are easily available on the internet. Working knowledge of any language can be obtained by mastering 850 words.

With my

16 year teaching experience at university level, I have found out that Tamil

language can be learnt by mastering approximately 4

00 words. If one knows how to do the permutation combination of these words and can use a bit of

imagination, that person can even survive in Tamil speaking parts of the world like Tamilnadu (India), Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore, South Africa, Mauritius,

Fiji , France and other countries where Tamils have recently migrated. I am going to give you 1000 sentences by using these 400+ words in Part -2.

If you learn these words and sentences you may be able to express your thoughts, needs and feelings in Tamil. But when other Tamils speak to you or write to you they are not going to stick to these 400 words only. So you need to learn more, but not immediately. In Level 2 you will learn Present, Future and Past Tenses. Simple Pronunciation Guide:

Double aa= long A (sound as in all)

Double ii = long E (sound as in feel)

double uu= Long U (sound as in food) double ee = Long EA (Sound as in Ape or Fate)

Double oo= Long O (sound as in vote)

Capital letter : Different N or R

There are three different 'N' sounds/letters ,,and two different 'R' sounds/letters , in Tamil.

Za= Special 'La' sound in Tamil (Retroflex).

There are three different' L 'sounds/letters ,,, in Tamil.
