How does the Multilateral Fund work?

The Multilateral Fund operates under the authority of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol. The Executive Committee comprising seven developed and seven developing countries oversees Multilateral Fund operations. The Fund Secretariat assists the Executive Committee and carries out day-to-day operations.

When will the Multilateral Fund be replenished?

Last 16 July 2022, following the adoption of interim budgets for the Multilateral Fund due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Fifth Extraordinary Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol (5th ExMOP) decided on the replenishment of the Multilateral Fund for the triennium 2021-2023.

How much does the Multilateral Fund contribute to the triennium?

The Parties agreed on a budget of US $540 million for the triennium. As at 29 May 2023, the contributions received by the Multilateral Fund from developed countries, or non-Article 5 countries, totalled over US$ 4.4 billion.
