Atomization refers to the process of breaking up bulk liquids into droplets Common home atomizers you may be familiar with include shower heads perfume sprays garden hoses and deodorant or hair sprays A classic example of atomization occurring naturally involves pouring liquid from a pitcher

Since conditions of atomization depend strongly on the atomization surface it is common to specify this surface by the terms graphite platform atomization tungsten- or graphite probe atomizer etc If the atomization surface is not specified wall atomization is assumed 10 3 4 5 3 Processes in atomizers
A classic example of atomization occurring naturally involves pouring liquid from a pitcher. As you are pouring and gradually lift the pitcher higher, the stream of liquid elongates and breaks into droplets at some point. This breakup of a liquid stream is a simplistic example of atomization. See Figure 1 for an illustration of this concept.
The most important factor in choosing a method of atomization is the analyte’s concentration. Because of its greater sensitivity, it takes less analyte to achieve a given absorbance when using electrothermal atomization.
In some types of atomizers, such as bells, shaping air can be added to move the spray forward in an axial direction. Electrostatic atomization exposes a fluid to an intense electric field between the charged atomizer and grounded work piece.
When using flame atomization, we can minimize the formation of nonvolatile compounds by increasing the flame’s temperature, either by changing the fuel-to-oxidant ratio or by switching to a different combination of fuel and oxidant. Another approach is to add a releasing agent or a protecting agent to the samples.
