Does Boston require a LTC?
Good luck! Boston and its’ burbs as well as Brookline require live fire to obtain a LTC. As far as we understand it, Boston does require a shooting qualification with Boston PD. Though we have been hearing that they’ve suspended that requirement recently due to COVID.
Do non-resident LTCs have a background check?
Going forward, all new and renewal Non-Resident LTCs will be issued without restrictions. Processing of new and renewal applications includes a state and federal background check, a fingerprint based background check, and a check with the Department of Mental Health.
How do I get a copy of my non resident LTC?
Any license holder who wishes to obtain an updated copy of their Non-Resident LTC may request a copy from the Firearms Records Bureau by email at FRB@mass.gov or over the phone at 617.660.4782. Going forward, all new and renewal Non-Resident LTCs will be issued without restrictions.
Can a restraining order make you unsuitable for an LTC?
Depending on the circumstances of the restraining order, they could deem you unsuitable for an LTC. I don’t believe that is very likely though. What is more likely is that they will restrict the license so you won’t be able to carry it on you person daily. That is very common for Boston. Good luck!
