  • What are the biosafety practices?

    No eating, drinking, smoking, or applying cosmetics in the lab.
    Disinfecting work surfaces daily and decontaminating after spills.
    Prudent handling, management, and disposal of sharps.
    Using procedures that minimize the formation of aerosols and splashes; engineering controls for aerosol release may be required..

Biosafety practical sessions will move from Wesbrook (6174 University Boulevard) to Koerner Pavilion (2211 Wesbrook Mall) room G326 in September 2021. Biosafety 

What is a biosafety course?

The Department of Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) will be presenting the Biosafety Course at the Okanagan campus.
This course, which consists of an on-line course (in Moodle), a practical session and a final exam, is designed to provide best practices for safety of biohazardous materials.

What is the UBC biosafety permit study team course?

This course provides new UBC Biosafety Permit Study Team Members with an overview of UBC policies and procedures for working with biological materials, including:

  • project risk assessment
  • exposure control and emergency procedures.

    The University Biosafety Committee requires successful completion of the UBC Laboratory Biological Safety Course for all personnel working with Risk Group 1, 2 or 3.
