Somerville biosafety committee

  • An IBSC is to be constituted by every organisation engaged in research, handling and production activities related to GMOs and each IBSC has a nominee appointed by DBT.
    The role of IBSCs is extremely important as it is a Statutory Committee that operates from premises of respective organisation.
  • The purpose of the Institutional Biosafety and Bioethics Committee (IBEC) is to ensure safe and ethical research at KAUST involving: human subjects; animals via IACUC review; biological materials; biologically derived toxins; genetically modified organisms; plants, especially invasive species or noxious weeds;
The Biosafety Committee works to protect the health, safety, and the general welfare of Somerville residents. The Committee promotes the development of clean and pollution-free industry through the regulation of the research and use of recombinant deoxyribonucleic acid (“rDNA”) and biological agents.
