What is biotechnology and why is it so?
Biotechnology is technology that utilizes biological systems, living organisms or parts of this to develop or create different products.
Brewing and baking bread are examples of processes that fall within the concept of biotechnology (use of yeast (= living organism) to produce the desired product)..
Bio is short for biology, which is the study of all living things.
Technology is another word for tools.
Biotechnology then, is a tool that uses biology to make new products.
For example, agricultural biotechnology is a precise way to make seeds with special qualities.
