The CBS is rooted in the late 70's when a task force, composed of industry and academia was set up to determine how to facilitate the potential of new recombinant DNA techniques that were coming out at the time.
In 1983 the National Biotechnology Strategy (NBS) was created to develop biotechnology to enhance economic, health and environmental benefits to Canada.
