Boiler design standards

What are the engineering standards for steam boilers?

Engineering standards, the founders agreed, would ensure safety, reliability and operational eficiency in machine design and mechanical production.
ASME issued its first standard, Code for the Conduct of Trials of Steam Boilers, in 1884.

What is a boiler & pressure vessel code?

Perhaps the most widely accepted boiler and pressure code in the world is the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code.
This is an internationally recognized standard governing the design and construction of heating and power boilers and unfired pressure vessels.

What types of boilers are required?

Provides requirements for all methods of construction of power, electric, and miniature boilers; high temperature water boilers, heat recovery steam generators, and certain fired pressure vessels to be used in stationary service; and power boilers used in locomotive, portable, and traction service.

What was the first edition of the ASME Boiler Code?

This committee put in the form work for the first edition of the ASME Boiler Code - Rules for the Construction of Stationary Boilers and for the Allowable Working Pressures, which was issued in 1914 and published in 1915. The first edition of the Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, known as the 1914 edition, was a single 114-page volume.
