Winter hours (April to September) The Gardens are open daily from 8 am to 6 pm. Visitor Centre Huakaiwaka is open from 8 am to 4.30 pm. Cafe Miko is open weekdays from 8 am to 2.30 pm, weekends 8 am-3 pm. Summer hours (October to March) The Gardens are open daily from 8 am to 8 pm.

The Botany of Lord Auckland's Group and Campbell's Island is a description of the plants discovered in those islands during the Ross expedition written by Joseph Dalton Hooker and published by Reeve Brothers in London between 1844 and 1845. East Auckland is one of the major geographical regions of Auckland, the largest city in New Zealand. Settled in the 14th century, the area is part of the traditional lands of Ngāi Tai ki Tāmaki. The area was developed into farmland in the 1840s, and the town of Howick was established as a defensive outpost by fencibles to protect Auckland. Coastal holiday communities developed in the area from the 1910s, and from the 1950s underwent major redevelopment into a suburban area of greater Auckland.
