Business management and economics

  • Managerial economics, or business economics, is a division of microeconomics that focuses on applying economic theory directly to businesses.
    The application of economic theory through statistical methods helps businesses make decisions and determine strategy on pricing, operations, risk, investments and production.
  • Upon completion of the Business Economics major, students will have achieved the following learning objectives: Understanding, through application of microeconomics, of the interaction of individuals and organizations in markets; and of the role of public policy in shaping those interactions.

What is a business & management degree?

The program provides a business and management education embedded within a broader economics and liberal arts context and is closely related to the economics and global economics majors and the technology and information management major.

What is a business management economics major?

The business management economics major provides students who are interested in careers in business or management with a foundation in economics and a selection of applied fields related to business management.
This course of study prepares students for entrance into the business world or admission to graduate programs.

What majors does the economics department offer?

The Economics Department administers four undergraduate majors:

  • economics
  • business management economics
  • global economics
  • and economics/mathematics.
    Students must complete three courses, with combined GPA of 2.8 or higher, to qualify for entry to the business management economics major:ECON 11A is also offered as AM 11A.
