Correctional Services Act 1982
The Act makes provision for the establishment and management of prisons and other correctional institutions; to regulate the manner in which persons in correctional institutions are to be treated by those responsible for their detention and care; and for other purposes.

Community corrections legislation generally requires the state to con- tinue its responsibility for housing serious offenders in state institutions while it allocates funds to communities to deal with certain nonviolent of- fenders at the local level.
