It focuses on how these factors, as well as social programs, health care systems, and policies, affect health beliefs, behaviors, and status within populations, especially those with disparities. It applies basic theories, research methods, and programmatic strategies to real problems of human populations. It also aims to enhance the health and well-being of communities and promote health equity and racial and social justice. It uses both social and behavioral sciences and emphasizes assessment, intervention, communication, advocacy, and community-based research and practice.
