Competition policy and regulation

Competition policy provisions range from a broad acknowledgment of the importance of undistorted competition for trade relationships (e.g., EU-Moldova) to more concrete obligations to promote competition under the principles of transparency, enhancement of economic eciency, and/or cooperation (e.g., Hong Kong SAR, China-Chile, Canada-Honduras).

The amendments have also introduced new categories of companies such as:

Economic regulation and competition policy are interdependent instruments of economic policy which, while distinct, can have overlapping scopes.
Competition law seeks to strengthen the workings of markets by prohibiting certain forms of anticompetitive behaviour that, alone or in concert, have the ability to exercise market power.
