To this aim, dis- tributed quantum computing requires a new generation of quantum compilers, for mapping any quantum algo- rithm to any distributed quantum computing architec- ture.
With this perspective, in this paper, we rst dis- cuss the main challenges arising with compiler design for distributed quantum computing.

As with classical computing, better abstractions and software infrastructure can accelerate the development of practical quantum programs.

In distributed quantum computing architectures, with the network and communications functionalities pro- vided by the Quantum Internet, remote quantum pro- cessing units (QPUs) can communicate and cooperate for executing computational tasks that single NISQ de- vices cannot handle by themselves.
