In stochastic processes, chaos theory and time series analysis, detrended fluctuation analysis (DFA) is a method for determining the statistical self-affinity of a signal.
It is useful for analysing time series that appear to be long-memory processes or 1/f noise.

In signal processing, independent component analysis (ICA) is a computational method for separating a multivariate signal into additive subcomponents.
This is done by assuming that at most one subcomponent is Gaussian and that the subcomponents are statistically independent from each other.
ICA is a special case of blind source separation.
A common example application is the cocktail party problem of listening in on one person's speech in a noisy room.

Log-linear analysis is a technique used in statistics to examine the relationship between more than two categorical variables.
The technique is used for both hypothesis testing and model building.
In both these uses, models are tested to find the most parsimonious model that best accounts for the variance in the observed frequencies.
