Molecular neuropathology

  • Molecular neuropathology Neurology and clinical neuroscience

What is neuropathology? Neuropathology is the study of diseases of the brain, spinal cord, and nerves through analyzing tissues removed during autopsy or biopsy.
This analysis is central to research on Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative diseases..

  • What are the molecular techniques used in pathology?

Techniques are numerous but include quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR), multiplex PCR, DNA microarray, in situ hybridization, in situ RNA sequencing, DNA sequencing, antibody based immunofluorescence tissue assays, molecular profiling of pathogens, and analysis of bacterial genes for antimicrobial resistance .

  • What is the basic of molecular pathology?

Molecular pathology represents the application of the principles of basic molecular biology to the investigation of human disease processes.
Many genetic diseases have now been characterized that result from the mutation of a single gene or are associated with a specific chromosomal rearrangement..

Academic journal

The Journal of Molecular Neuroscience is a peer-reviewed scientific journal covering research in neuroscience.
It is published by Humana Press and the editor-in-chief is Illana Gozes.
In 1999, the journal absorbed Molecular and Chemical Neuropathology, a journal that had been established in 1983 as Neurochemical Pathology.
According to the Journal Citation Reports, the journal has a 2020 impact factor of 3.444.

Study of disease of nervous system tissue

Neuropathology is the study of disease of nervous system tissue, usually in the form of either small surgical biopsies or whole-body autopsies.
Neuropathologists usually work in a department of anatomic pathology, but work closely with the clinical disciplines of neurology, and neurosurgery, which often depend on neuropathology for a diagnosis.
Neuropathology also relates to forensic pathology because brain disease or brain injury can be related to cause of death.
Neuropathology should not be confused with neuropathy, which refers to disorders of the nerves themselves rather than the tissues.
In neuropathology, the branches of the specializations of nervous system as well as the tissues come together into one field of study.
