Conservation biology is the management of nature and of Earth's biodiversity with the aim of protecting species, their habitats, and ecosystems from excessive rates of extinction and the erosion of biotic interactions.

Strategies for Biodiversity Conservation Unique ecosystems should be preserved first. The resources should be utilized efficiently. Poaching and hunting of wild animals should be prevented. The reserves and protected areas should be developed carefully.

How do governments help conserve biodiversty?

In the recent past, several species of organisms have become extinct (have died out), or are endangered (about to go extinct).
This is a problem of national interest to several regions with high biodiversity, and so governments step in to help conservation efforts.

Empirical measurement

Conservation biologists have designed a variety of objective means to empirically measure biodiversity.
Each measure of biodiversity relates to a particular use of the data.

For others, a more economically defensible definition should allow the ensuring of continued possibilities for both adaptation and future use by humans, assuring environmental sustainability.
