Construction management circular economy

  • How do you manage a circular economy?

The 10 principles of a circular economy

    1. Refuse.
    2. We consume more than we need.
    3. Rethink.
    4. Every product and every system needs to be rethought with a focus on how to reduce its environmental impact.
    5. Reduce.
    6. We need to embrace the principles of creating a circular economy.
    7. Reuse
    8. Repair
    9. Refurbish
    10. Remanufacture
    11. Repurpose

  • What is circular construction?

Circular construction is a strategy for the construction sector in which energy consumption and recycling opportunities are crucial in the choice of materials and methods.
Reuse is incorporated as an element already before the materials are used for the first time..

  • What is management for circular economy?

The management of circular economy requires firms to create a network to control not only the traditional forward flows but also the backward flows directed from the market to the production processes..

  • What is the circular economy in construction management?

A platform to buy, sell or give away excess building materials to decrease waste in the construction sector..

  • What is the role of circular economy principles in sustainable construction practices?

Circular economy principles such as materials reuse, recycling, and designing for disassembly help divert construction and demolition waste from landfills, reducing environmental pollution and conserving valuable resources Green construction contributes to mitigating climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions .

  • What is the use of BIM in circular economy?

BIM can enhance understanding and develop skills related to the application of circular economy principles by providing a digital platform that integrates various aspects of circular construction projects, including circular design, material reuse, resource optimisation, and lifecycle analysis..

Jul 13, 2022Construction is a resource-intensive industry where a circular economy (CE) is essential to minimize global impacts and conserve natural
Moving towards a circular economy (CE) can reduce the use of primary materials, protect material resources and reduce the carbon footprint (Adams et al., 2017). The concept of CE is becoming increasingly popular in Europe as a major policy agenda and is also highly relevant for the construction industry.
The CE paradigm proposes to shift from the current “take-make-waste” production and consumption linear patterns to circular ones, where materials and energy are kept in use to minimise waste and create new business value, decoupling economic growth from resource consumption (Perey et al., 2018).

Can the circular economy be applied to prefabricated buildings?

How is the construction sector becoming more circular?

The construction sector is progressively becoming more circular by reducing waste, re-using building materials and adopting regenerative solutions for energy production and biodiversity protection.

,

Identification and Organisation of Methods

Requirements for CE solutions and the assessments of their environmental effectiveness are often based on the same foundation, i.e. the construction life cycle of the building.
As summarised in Table 1, assessments are in practice tailored to the appropriate systemic level where they can act as both enablers and constraints for CE depending on the .

,

Management Implications

The paper highlights several findings with management implications for advancing CE in the construction industry, thus relating to the scope and comprehensiveness and scope of decision making in relation to the proposed systemic model.
The first finding emphasises the importance of addressing environmental performance within the correct scope to be.

,

Systemic Interactions

By examining the different impact methods from a systemic perspective, we confirm the model by Fet and Knudson (2021) and show the relation between product (building components and the building itself), organisational and system levels for the development of circular solutions.
We further see that CE is integrated at all levels, but that developmen.

What are circular economy strategies in building construction & demolition waste management?

Circular economy strategies in building construction and demolition waste management Building construction and demolition waste minimisation are possible by adopting various circular economy strategies (reuse, recycle, remanufacture, and recovery).

,

What is a circular economy & why is it important?

The circular economy’s approach to designing, producing and consuming goods eliminates waste and regenerates nature.
In short, it ensures we can live within our means and in harmony with the planet.
