Modern sanskrit literature

  • Sanskrit poetry

Sanskrit is not the language of only religion and prayer books, but of every subject known to man.
And Sanskrit is most definitely not just the language of Hindus — it is taught in schools all over the world today irrespective of caste, creed or religion..

  • Beginning c. 1500 bc, with the era of the Vedic hymns, the classical period of Sanskrit drew to a close c. ad 1000.
Throughout this period of 2,500 years the dating of most literary works is problematical; the difficulty is aggravated by the tendency to ascribe authorship to well-known or legendary names.
  • While most Sanskrit texts were composed in ancient India, others were composed in Central Asia, East Asia or Southeast Asia.
Sanskrit literature is vast and includes religious scripture, various forms of poetry (such as epic and lyric), drama and narrative prose.
Modern Sanskrit literature has got a simple, fluent language by abandoning the long, complex, compound words of ancient and medieval times. Modern Sanskrit writers have enriched the Sanskrit vocabulary by introducing words like Bengali Tadbhav, Desi, Arabic, French, English.
