The Four Corners Rule is a legal doctrine that courts use to determine the meaning of a written instrument such as a contract, will, or deed as represented solely by its textual content. The doctrine states that where there is an ambiguity of terms, the Court must rely on the written instrument solely and cannot consider extraneous evidence.The doctrine of privity of contract is a common law principle which provides that a contract cannot confer rights or impose obligations upon anyone who is not a party to that contract. The Doctrine The general rule at common law states that a contract creates rights and obligations only as between the parties to such contract. As a corollary, a third party neither acquires a right nor any liabilities under such contract.
