  • What is the highest priority of the Board of cosmetology?

    Section 7301.1 of the Business and Professions Code states that protection of the public shall be the highest priority of the Board in exercising its licensing, regulatory, and disciplinary functions..

  • The applicant must have completed at least 1500 hours of education or one (1) year of licensed practice is equal to one hundred (100) hours of education to an applicant who has completed a minimum of one thousand (1000) hours of education.
  • Virginia State Board Examination can be taken in two parts, Theory $86.00 and Practical $86.00.
    Passing Candidates: Once you have passed both exams, you will be able to print and send in your license application to DPOR.
    Upon passing both exams, complete the following steps.

The Board has contracted with PSI Services LLC (PSI) to conduct its cosmetology examination program

The Board examination is designed to test a candidate’s knowledge, skills and abilities to practice and determine whether a candidate is prepared to assume responsibility for the safety and welfare of the public

How do I comment on a psi exam?

PSI, in cooperation with the Board, will be continually evaluating the examinations being administered to ensure that the examinations accurately measure competency in the required knowledge areas

Who can not evaluate a psi practical examination?

PSI practical examination rater (examiner) may not evaluate the practical examination of a candidate who is the rater’s current student, current employee, employer or co-worker, or is related to the rater by family, personal or financial interest or other relationship
