Cosmological void

  • Do we live in a cosmic void?

We are not living in a galactic void, but rather along a filament/surface of clusters running roughly between the Perseus supercluster and the Virgo/Laniakea supercluster.
We are however living near the edge of the Local Void..

  • What is the void in the universe?

Today, voids make up over 80 percent of the volume of the universe, yet contain less than a tenth of its total mass. ✅ Cosmic voids are holes in the distribution of matter in the universe, like holes in Swiss cheese or the gaps in a spider web.
They are empty of everything, including normal matter and dark matter..

  • Why is the Bootes void empty?

Bootes Void is a point in universe of massive volume and almost completely empty space.
It's about 750 million light years from us and stretches for about a billion of light years.
It definitely is huge but is also just that empty because such large space only contains about sixty galaxies..

  • Is Bootes Void a black hole? - Quora.
No, black holes don't get that big.
In fact, even the very biggest black holes are 2–3% of one light-year.
The Bootes void is several hundred million light years.
  • It is thought that as the matter built up around regions of higher density in the early Universe, matter was lost from the lower density regions – a process which lowered the densities in these regions even further.
These low density regions are what we see today as voids.
Voids are believed to have been formed by baryon acoustic oscillations in the Big Bang, collapses of mass followed by implosions of the compressed baryonic matter. Starting from initially small anisotropies from quantum fluctuations in the early universe, the anisotropies grew larger in scale over time.
Cosmic voids (also known as dark space) are vast spaces between filaments (the largest-scale structures in the universe), which contain very few or no galaxies.
The dominant volume fraction of the Universe consists of relatively empty space, so-called cosmic voids. This is a simple consequence of gravitational clustering, which always acts to enhance over-dense structures via collapse, while under-densities are depleted and expand.
