Who is eligible for NEA prose?
You are eligible to apply in Prose if you meet the following requirements: You are a citizen or permanent resident of the United States.
You have not received two or more Fellowships (in poetry, prose, or translation) from the National Endowment for the Arts..
The Creative Arts Fellowship and Creative Arts Fellowship for Australian Writing are for creative works inspired by the Library's unique, rare or comprehensive collections.
Works can be at any stage of development but must require direct access to the collections to progress or be completed.
The NEA will award 36 Creative Writing Fellowships of $25,000 each for a total of $900,000.
These FY 2023 fellowships are in poetry and enable the recipients to set aside time for writing, research, travel, and general career development.

Are fellowships available in FY 2024?

For FY 2024, which is covered by these guidelines, fellowships in prose (fiction and nonfiction) are available.
Fellowships in poetry will be offered in FY 2025 and guidelines will be available in January 2024.
You may apply only once each year.
Competition for fellowships is extremely rigorous.

All Fellows enter the program with an idea for a cultural project that responds to a problem they want to solve in their communities.

Cornel West, a philosopher, academic, and political activist, announced his campaign on June 5, 2023, in the 2024 US presidential elections as a People's Party candidate via a video on Twitter where he called for truth and justice and pledged to use the presidency to accomplish that.
On June 14, 2023, West announced he would also seek the Green Party's nomination in their primaries.
