What is a RAR in the probation service?
The Rehabilitation Activity Requirement
RARs form part of a Community Order or Suspended Sentence Order to set the amount and type of rehabilitation activity for people on probation._{Sep 10, 2021}.
Probation means you're serving your sentence but you're not in prison.
You could be put on probation because: you're serving a community sentence. you have been released from prison on licence or on parole.

When making a community or suspended sentence order, a court may include a rehabilitation activity requirement – that is, a requirement that the defendant participates in activity to reduce the prospect of reoffending. Rehabilitation activity requirements are commonly known as RARs.

Can a RAR be used as a punishment?

The RAR is not designed to be used as a punishment.
There’s no maximum number of RAR days but the ‘offender group reconviction scale’ ( OGRS) score, based on age, gender and criminal history, should be the main guide to the number of days proposed.

What counts as a RAR activity?

What counts as a RAR activity A RAR activity must be a pre-planned, structured intervention to address someone’s identified need to support their rehabilitation.
The RO and the service user should agree the desired outcomes ahead of the activities, so that progress can be tracked.

What is a RAR in a court order?
