· Practise! Your coach, members of staff or members of a Moot Court team from a previous year can help by acting as judges when you are practising.
They should try to interrupt your flow by asking questions.
You must know your material well enough to cope with interruptions and then resume your argument.
When a case starts, the dispute is live.
It’s real.
The plaintiff needs resolution.
Otherwise a court wouldn’t take it.
But sometimes either the passage of time or an intervening event extinguishes the dispute.
That’s mootness.
A court must recognize when a case ceases to matter.
And it will dismiss the case as moot.
Here is a basic example.
In moot court, you are given a piece of paper, you treat that as your client and your facts of the case.
Real court a person comes to you and he becomes your client.
In moot court, if you win, you get a trophy.
In real court, if you win, you get a favourable order and a happy client.
Why should one participate in a Moot court competition.
There are various reasons because of which one should participate in a Moot court competition.
Firstly, it enhances your interpretation skills.
Secondly, it enhances your knowledge of a particular law.
Thirdly, it enhances your research, speaking, and drafting skills.
