Human geography a spatial perspective

Studying human geography provides examples of a second type of spatial thinking. Learning about the shapes and structures of urban areas, the diffusion of cultures and agriculture, or the organization of the world economy, that is, learning human geography, is learning about physical space.Spatial concepts provide us with a lens to see how human societies exist within, interact with, and understand physical space. This includes the mechanisms and processes of organization, the creation of networks, and forms of identity.More than anything, geography is about spatial relationships and utilizing a spatial perspective to view and understand the world. This is in contrast with looking at the world with a chronological perspective, where time, instead of place, is the primary unit of analysis.The Spatial Perspective A historical perspective focuses on the temporal dimension of human experience (time and chronology), while geography is concerned with the spatial dimension of human experience (space and place). The space of Earth’s surface is the fundamental characteristic underpinning geography.
