Ballroom dancing is a partnership dance where couples, using step-patterns, move rhythmically, expressing the characteristics of music. Ballroom dancing consists of two styles: the Smooth, or Standard, and the Rhythm, or Latin. The Smooth, Standard style focuses on the elegance, grace and fluidity of movement.

These are kinds of group dance where the dancers form couples and dance either the same choreographed or called routines or routines within a common choreography—routines that control both how each couple dances together and how each couple moves in accord with other couples.
It reputedly originated as an
Italian folk dance with running steps. As a court dance it was performed with small, back-and-forth, springing steps, later subdued to stately glides. communication patterns between two people, both verbal and non-verbal, including attachment patterns (how you each learned to DO relationship growing up) as well as how each of your nervous systems are uniquely wired. This is what I call the couples dance. And it’s a lot to navigate.
The rhythm dance (RD) is the first segment of an ice dance competition.
The International Skating Union (ISU) renamed the short dance to the rhythm dance in June 2018, prior to the 2018–2019 season.
It became part of international competitions in July 2018.
