Data acquisition filtering

  • What is the use of filters in the data acquisition system?

In communication systems, filters are used for tuning in specific frequencies and eliminating others.
Digital signal processing systems use filters to prevent the aliasing of out-of-band noise and interference.
The data acquisition system signal chain that includes an analog filter is shown in Fig..

May 21, 2019Filtering, is removing any unwanted signal from the signal of interest. This can be done either before or after the amplification step. Most
Filtering is a type of conditioning which removes interference from your signals. The data acquisition interface might filter the signal (analogue filtering); alternatively you could use analysis software for filtering. Here we are focusing primarily on analogue filtering in hardware.

What is analog filtering?

Analog filtering is a critical portion of the data acquisi- tion system.
If an analog filter is not used, signals out- side half of the sampling bandwidth of the A/D Converter are aliased back into the signal path.

What is data acquisition?

Data acquisition has been understood as the process of gathering, filtering, and cleaning data before the data is put in a data warehouse or any other storage solution.
The acquisition of big data is most commonly governed by four of the Vs:

  1. volume
  2. velocity
  3. variety
  4. value

Why do digital signal processing systems use filters?

Digital signal processing sys- tems use filters to prevent the aliasing of out-of-band noise and interference.
This application note investigates the design of analog filters that reduce the influence of extraneous noise in data acquisition systems.

Tool for Digital Signal Processing

In signal processing, a filter bank is an array of bandpass filters that separates the input signal into multiple components, each one carrying a single frequency sub-band of the original signal.
One application of a filter bank is a graphic equalizer, which can attenuate the components differently and recombine them into a modified version of the original signal.
The process of decomposition performed by the filter bank is called analysis ; the output of analysis is referred to as a subband signal with as many subbands as there are filters in the filter bank.
The reconstruction process is called synthesis, meaning reconstitution of a complete signal resulting from the filtering process.
