Data compression game

  • How does compression in games work?

Some of the files are usually replaced either by dummy or lower quality than before (texture or music).
Sometimes, it even remove optional files, in example video, thus reduce gaming experience.
However, some new compressed games did not remove or have lower quality, it just repacked.Apr 24, 2018.

  • What does compressing games do?

Compression means less installation time (happens rarely).
Compression means less game size on the disc and during downloading process.
Compression means the data should be extracted every time the game resource cache mechanism decides to cache some data in RAM from the archive.Sep 7, 2017.

  • What is compression in video games?

Games use a lot of compressed data on the storage drive.
This allows them pack in a lot more data with smaller file sizes.
If games didn't have compressed data, file sizes would be much larger than they already are.

  • What is data compression in gaming?

Data compression reduces the number of bits needed to store or transmit data, allowing your gaming company to save valuable time and reduce memory utilization, storage space, and most importantly, network bandwidth.Sep 23, 2016.

  • It is worth mentioning that some games will be compressed better than others.
Compressing will help to save up to 75% of space.

1996 video game

Star Ocean is a 1996 action role-playing game developed by tri-Ace and published by Enix for the Super Famicom.
The first game in the Star Ocean series, it was released only in Japan in July 1996, and was the first game developed by tri-Ace, consisting of staff that had previously left Wolf Team due to being unhappy with the development process for Tales of Phantasia with Namco in 1995.
The game used a special compression chip in its cartridge to compress and store all of the game's data due to possessing graphics that pushed the limits of the Super Famicom.
Additionally, the game had voice acting for the game's intro and voice clips that played during the game's battle gameplay, a rarity for games on the system.
