Dental anatomy of dog

  • What are the parts of a dog's mouth?

Like our human mouths, the dog mouth contains a tongue, teeth, and gums, and the mouth is surrounded by cheeks and lips.
It's located in the front, lower part of the face..

How many molars does a dog have?

In dogs, the three upper molars have two roots, whereas the two lower molars have three roots! Dogs have a total of 42 teeth! That’s a lot! However, one amusing fact about the dental anatomy of dogs is that the total number of milk teeth and the total number of permanent teeth are not the same

They have only 28 milk teeth, and no puppy molars!

What kind of teeth do dogs have?

Canines are the large, curved, sharp, fang-like teeth after which the canine family was named

They are also sometimes referred to as cuspids or eyeteeth (upper canines) and stomach teeth (lower canines)

They are the longest teeth and have a singular root like the incisors

They are used for tearing, grasping and shredding meat
