Tooth anatomy wikipedia

  • What is the anatomy of each tooth?

Dental anatomy is defined here as, but is not limited to, the study of the development, morphology, function, and identity of each of the teeth in the human dentitions, as well as the way in which the teeth relate in shape, form, structure, color, and function to the other teeth in the same dental arch and to the teeth .

It consists of the cementum, periodontal ligaments, alveolar bone, and gingiva. Of these, cementum is the only one that is a part of a tooth. Periodontal ligaments connect the alveolar bone to the cementum.
It is organized into three parts: the enamel organ, the dental papilla and the dental follicle. The enamel organ is composed of the outer enamel epithelium, inner enamel epithelium, stellate reticulum and stratum intermedium. These cells give rise to ameloblasts, which produce enamel and the reduced enamel epithelium.

Overview

Human teeth function to mechanically break down items of food by cutting and crushing them in preparation for swallowing and digesting

Parts

Enamel is the hardest and most highly mineralized substance of the body. It has its origin from oral ectoderm

Development

Tooth development is the complex process by which teeth form from embryonic cells, grow, and erupt into the mouth

Supporting structures

The periodontium is the supporting structure of a tooth

Tooth decay

Plaque is a biofilm consisting of large quantities of various bacteria that form on teeth. If not removed regularly

What is the pulp of a tooth called?

The pulp, or endodontium, is the part in the center of a tooth made up of living connective tissue and cells called odontoblasts

The dental pulp is a part of the dentin–pulp complex (endodontium)
