  • A doctorate in dentistry is the highest general dental degree in the U.S.
    Dentistry schools award either a doctor of medicine in dentistry (DMD) or a doctor of dental surgery (DDS) to graduates.
The program is research-oriented, consisting of didactic courses, original research carried out under supervision, and preparation and completion of a thesis. It is not a clinical program leading to clinical specialization and is unrelated to licensure.
